Lucia Anelich and Katherine Swanson present lectures at IAFP 2022
3 August 2022
Congratulations to ICMSF member Lucia Anelich, who presented the Ivan Parkin Lecture, and former member Katherine Swanson (retired) who presented the John H Silliker Lecture, at IAFP 2022 in Pittsburgh, USA. These prestigious lectures are presented by prominent food safety leaders.
On 31 July 2022, Lucia Anelich presented the Ivan Parkin Lecture entitled “Out of Africa”, which covered challenges the continent is facing, from poor, unsanitary conditions of street food to record numbers of hunger that only continue to rise. The Lecture was established by the IAFP in 1986 to honour individuals who have had a significant impact on the field of food safety. Each year a prominent food safety leader is selected to deliver the Lecture at the Opening Session of IAFP’s Annual Meeting. The Association established the Lecture to honor Ivan Parkin, a dairy extension specialist at Pennsylvania State University.
Katie Swanson presented the John H Silliker Lecture “The Power of Diverse Perspectives for Effective Food Safety Management” on 3 August 2022. The Lecture was established by Silliker Inc. (now Merieux NutriSciences) in 2004 to recognise the achievements of Dr Silliker through the practical application of scientific principles to improve food protection. The Lecture provides an avenue for recognised experts to present important and timely information on topics of significance to food protection at the IAFP Annual Meeting.
